5 Copywriter Magnets as Pretty as Anne Hathaway

The Great American Novel

The Great American Novel

I have a confession to make…

I have a secret desire to become the next great American novelist.

I want to delve deep into the depths of what people feel and bring them to life with the written word. Will I ever get to achieve that dream? Well, let’s just say that I’ll keep that as one of the items on my list.

I will tell you that I am happy with the success I’ve achieved in music though. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 15 and I’m going to be 42 tomorrow, but I’ll elaborate more about my music career later….

For now, we’re taking a look at copywriter magnets and creating compelling content.

Number 1: Storytelling

The first base I’d like to cover is storytelling. I think this is one of the most important elements of doing business online. People are drawn to storytelling. Connect with your reader by illustrating a personal story, or one of the successes of a customer. Everyone loves a good story, especially if you can tell it well. Some of the most popular blogs today use this technique to bring the reader closer.

Number 2: Be Informal

An important element of informal writing is that you become a real person to your visitors. I know this is not professional, but this is where you will make your impression, so make it compelling. I’ve seen tons of sites that contain good information, but were written as if it was generated by a machine. I have to stop yawning by the end of the article. Most of us just scan for information anyway, which brings me to my next item.

Number 3: Keep it Brief

Unless you’re trying to meet a minimum word count for an article submission, keep it brief. That goes for sentences as well. We deal with so much information today that we are in the habit of scanning what we read. Make good bullet points and keep your paragraphs down to a few sentences. Readers are less likely to scan this way.

Number 4: Use Active Voice

This is English 101. A great resource is “Elements of Style” by Strunk and White, commonly referred to as Strunk and White. If you learn anything from this little book, it’s active voice. There are times when passive voice is useful, but rarely. Here’s an example: The frisbee was thrown by the boy. (passive) The boy threw the frisbee. (active) But, that’s enough of the English lesson…moving onward.

Number 5: Rhythm

Create a rhythm with your writing. Use a slight repetitive manner, just as in music, because it gives your writing structure to your reader. The repetitive phrase sinks in to the reader’s consciousness and makes it memorable, just like the lyrics to your favorite songs. Readers will be drawn to the flow of your writing, the same way.

Steps To Follow While Creating A Website

One may think that the process of website creation must be complicated and not for the inexperienced. Well, you’re totally wrong if you’ve been thinking along those lines. There is nothing more required than an idea and ways to give it the right shape before you can have your own website. There could be several uses of a website. You can have one to stay in touch with your family and friends or for business related purposes as well. The following are steps that you need to follow to have your own website all working for you:

  • Decide on the topic – The very first thing that you want to do is choose the topic that you want your website to be about. The theme of the website is extremely important as that will create the identity of the website. You have to work on your idea in parts. Feasibility of each part is important and it is better to keep things basic if you’re a beginner.
  • Choose a domain name – You have to pick up a domain name for your website. Make sure the name is in accordance with the theme of the website. Don’t rush while you’re at it. The domain name plays an important role in your website’s future performance. You’ll have to pay an annual fee to retain the ownership of a domain name.
  • Look for a web host – Your website’s domain name requires a web host. Take into consideration the stories of satisfied customers as well as the performance guarantees. Do a lot of shopping around before you purchase the appropriate web host for your domain name.
  • Hire a website designer – There are freelance website designers available. All you need to do is post the job with all the specifications and requirements. You have to make yourself clear about the requirements of your website and how you would want it to look like. Ask for status reports so that you can track the progress easily.

It is important that you don’t try to include the world in your website. As a beginner, keeping things simple is the wisest way to go about creating a website. It is better that you learn with time. You can put your experience to better use in your future projects. Do more researches and try your hand at creating a website with confidence and you’ll taste success in no time.

As you can see, this is another niche that has a meager advertising budget for such a big industry. And again, look for specific ways to market your niche. Low carb, high protein, shakes, diet for your 40’s, anything to narrow it down.

Here’s a good one. If you can identify some problems that exist in this niche, you’ll be well on your way to making a good deal of money. The goal here and in this whole series is to narrow down and focus on a specific thing.

Let’s see what we can find:

Well, the obvious sites that jumped out in a “beauty” search on Alexa were Sephora and Ulta. Two heavy hitters in the beauty department. I’m going to choose a site that isn’t as popular. I’m going with Total Beauty.

How to Generate a Blog Post Using E-mail

If you’re using WordPress and you can create a new email address on your web host, it’s really easy to set up posting by email.

E-mail

E-mail

1. Set up an email address

The first thing you’ll want to do is create a secret email address that you’ll use for posting. Any emails that this account receives will be posted on your site. I would suggest you use something that’s unusual like: apeMARshH@yourdomain.com. You don’t want any stray emails getting to this account.

2. Log in to your WordPress

Log in to your WordPress installation and go to: Settings -> Writing
Find the section titled Post via e-mail.
Enter your server: mail.yoursite.com
Enter your login name: apeMARshH@yourdomain.com
Enter your password: Yoursecretpassword
Enter the default post type from the list of categories.
Hit the save changes button and you’re all set!!

3. Write an e-mail

Now, go to your e-mail and write an e-mail post. You’re going to be sending the e-mail to the address you created. For example: apeMARshH@yourdomain.com

4. Publish the Post

Go to the following link on your site http://yoursite.com/installdir/wp-mail.php immediately after you send an e-mail to your new e-mail account. (Note: You must do this every time you send a new post.)

I found this post pending in my list of posts. A little editing…and walla, success!!

P.S.: This post was generated using e-mail!

Maybe some exercise for losing weight or building muscle (gaining weight). How about a specific type of exercise, like Zumba?

Let’s take a look at some of the Alexa stats.

How Internet Marketing is Like an Acoustic Guitar

I love acoustic guitar. Even better – I love an acoustic guitar that you can plug into an amp when you want a little more volume. It has warm rich tones when you strum it. And clean notes when you pick it. And it’s even better with some nice shiny new strings. I restrung my guitar the other day and it sounds awesome – crisp. The best thing about it though, is that it’s portable. I can play it with a group of friends at a party. I can play it anywhere.

Acoustic Guitar

Acoustic Guitar

And it occurred to me that Internet marketing (or content marketing) is a lot like an acoustic guitar. It’s a way we can do business anywhere and anytime. It’s portable. We can do it in the comfort of our own homes, or down the street at the nearest coffee shop with a free Wi-Fi connection. Ah, I love coffee, and you gotta love free Wi-Fi.

We are fortunate in this time and age that we have the freedom to do business anywhere we choose, from anywhere in the world. We can take it with us as we sit on the beach, drinking from a tall cold glass of beverage. Beads of condensation twinkling in the sunshine, as the waves woosh on the shore. Straw hat and sunglasses. Laptop on our lap – doing business.

Internet marketing can be warm and friendly as we build relationships with others online. And what I’m talking about is the “new” way business is done – through blogging, authorship, audience building, and the connection revolution.

It starts with good compelling content or content marketing. Stuff that people can feel, be a part of, and share. It’s so easy to share on the Internet, just a click of a mouse and your stuff gets shared on social media. Isn’t it exciting?  It’s an experience that’s more than a cold handshake in a stuffy bar. Though, some would argue that the Internet is a cold place. I tend to disagree. I’ve met a good amount of warm decent people on the net. Probably warmer than some I’ve met face-to-face.

The good compelling content stuff? That’s something that each of us works at. What I can tell you is this – work your hardest to be yourself and share your innermost thoughts and feelings. It will resonate with people, I promise you.

Today we’ll be talking about eating disorders and addictions. These niches could be considered sub-niches to health problems, but they are worthy of niches of their own. Some good sub-niches are: anorexia, bulimia, gambling, alcohol, sexaholics, or Internet gaming. Also, we’ll be using one useful website for niche calculation and that is Alexa. Alexa contains most of the information that we can use to make a determination on niche selection.

I punched in addictions on the Alexa site and up popped Dr. Oz as one of the choices…let’s take a look at some of his stats:

5 Ugly Truths about Internet Marketing

At the risk of being flogged by the Internet Marketing blogosphere, I’m going to be honest with you. I know, novel idea, right? What works for another marketer and how they’ve built their success, may not work for you. In music, it can be the same with the sound or getting along with other musicians in the band. You’re trying to create that vibe and it’s either there, or it isn’t.

When it’s not working for you

Black Guitar

Black Guitar

Does that mean you should give up? Pack it in? Close shop? Does that mean you shouldn’t try to make your business a success anyway? No. I’m simply stating that you could spend thousands of dollars of your hard earned money on techniques and strategies that end up failing. Not because they weren’t great information (there’s a good amount of great information out there). It just doesn’t work for you. It’s better to figure this out sooner than later. Start a new band, but you may want to take some of that song material with you.

Walk your own path

The bottom line is… that we all must walk our own path through to success. Yes, we can benefit from the valuable information our fellow marketers, bloggers, and musicians provide, but ultimately we decide our own fate. You have to figure out what works best for you and start making something happen. Nothing will happen if you do nothing.

Social marketing

Some marketers concentrate on Facebook, some on Twitter, some on Pinterest, and some on (name your own favorite social media here), etc. Some say to put effort into them all. Some say concentrate on a couple. Is there a right or wrong way to market social media? No, just our each individual way and I encourage you to find it.

Traffic strategies

Internet Marketers have found that it helps to develop relationships with other blog owners in your niche. Not saying that you can’t make it on your own, because I believe that you can. Many successful people have achieved success through their own efforts. They are the ones who create the leads that everyone winds up following. The truth about traffic strategies is that it takes a combination of creating content that doesn’t “suck balls”, being noticed by people at the right time and place, commenting, forum posting, and social media.

Other types of promotion

When you’re in a band you have to book some shows and promote them. Print up some flyers, talk to people. Get some mentions from other bands, plug on the radio, or Internet radio. The same is true for a marketing business. Your shows are your posts on your blog, so you have to get the word out about it. If that means printing some flyers, business cards, ad in a local paper, or an entrepreneur magazine, do it. The point is to get eyes on your stuff. Your material. And just like a band that’s just starting out, it may “suck balls” a little at first…but practice makes perfect.

I now suggest that you research a few of the top domain sites above. Plug a few of them into Open Site Explorer. Open Site Explorer is more than just a back links checking tool. And although back link checking is helpful, it also has a feature to examine the “top pages” of a site. By looking at these pages, you can get some ideas for your own content creation and what content is popular on other sites. You’re limited to 3 searches per day if you’re using the free version.

When you’re satisfied with the research you’ve done with Open Site Explorer, then plug one of the domains into the Alexa website. Press the “get details” button after entering the domain and you’ll see the statistics for the site. Some of the interesting data collected is rank, traffic, audience, keywords, search queries, and advertising metrics. Some results:

Welcome to Your Future: Building Economic Independence

What is economic independence, you ask? It’s not just owning your own business or being in business for yourself. It’s securing

the economic future of you and your business. And now is one of the greatest times to start. It means not having to rely on working for another business (or person) to make a living. You decide what you want your living to be. You are your own boss. Some people refer to it as the Internet lifestyle.

According to IMGrind in this post, now is the best time to start a business due to economic floundering, ability to get funded, reduction in tech costs, social media, and the recent success in blogging.

Seth Godin says, “Industrialization is fading as an engine for economic growth.” He states that this is the “Connection Revolution.” Where we connect with one another, to promote, and share – means achieving success in business online.

This new economic way of thinking and doing business is on a wave that still hasn’t crested yet. There is enough wealth in the world that no one person should have to go without. It’s just all in the hands of a few. But, that’s changing. By taking charge of our own financial futures, we are becoming an independent economy. Every day, new businesses are started online and the numbers will increase.

As of this writing, WordPress reports that there are 60,033,601 WordPresses in existence, and over 383 million people view more than 35 billion pages. Many big brand name companies are using WordPress to communicate their message. “As of 2011, over 100,000 new WordPresses are created every day. Blogs continue to be highly popular around the world, and we’re now seeing a trend that’s potentially even bigger: Publishers are using WordPress to create all kinds of sites beyond blogs – news sites, company sites, magazines, social networks, sports sites, and more.” (2011, WordPress)

Yes, there will still be a global economy, and our country’s economy, but we will also have our personal economy, an independent economy. More and more people are starting to figure this out. We are self-publishing, self-producing, manufacturing, and selling our own products.

Now, don’t get me wrong. Just because we can do all of this doesn’t mean we still won’t need others to help us succeed. Quite the opposite, we need other people and businesses more than ever, but working together. Helping each other. Each business unique and independent, but also working as a team. A recipe for success for everyone who takes part and does their part, combining connections with inbound marketing, viral marketing, newsletter marketing, article marketing, mobile marketing, and search engine marketing.

Where will you be with your business in the next year, or the next 5 years?

Will you be a part of the next revolution of business?

4 Ways to Grow an Audience That Nicki Minaj Would Love

This post was originally appeared on Naked Blogging. Thanks Laura.

Audience

Audience

You’re frustrated, I know.

You work your ass off and there is no one visiting your blog.

You fire up your analytics to see the dismal numbers.

You want to close your virtual doors to the world.

You want to quit.

Why not? No one cares, no one visits, no one reads…

Ok, so you want to quit and feel like you’ve had enough. I say don’t do it. Don’t quit.

Pull yourself together and reaffirm your commitment to your blog. I’m sure it’s been a lot of work up until this point. Otherwise, you wouldn’t want to give it up. Maybe there’s another way to go about it.

Let’s take a look at how we can turn this around for you…
There are 4 transitions that every website or blog goes through from conception to success.

1. Create Killer Content – Get to know your audience, what they want, and write something awesome for them. Don’t worry about how little of an audience you have right now. Once you have your audience visiting, you’ll want good content waiting for them.

2. Build a Community – Make connections with people who are trying to achieve the same things you are, and find common ground where your blogs can overlap. Help each other promote, post, and tweet. Find big players in these areas and get in touch with them.

3. Be Everywhere – Be a pop star like Nicki Minaj, put your content everywhere. Make it so that everywhere people turn they see your name, your content, your blog. Land some guest posts on some high traffic sites. Visibility is a key to success.

4. Going Viral – This goes hand in hand with item 3. Be everywhere. Create a post that you feel has viral potential. This is most likely something that a lot of people want, so you may have to do some research. The next step is to land a guest post on sites like Copyblogger, or Problogger. Here is where you’ll get results. Again, visibility is everything. Today’s model is about working from the top down, not the bottom up.

Go ahead, fire your analytics back up and check out those mad stats…

This is the big time, kid.

You’re now in show business.

So, on with the show…!!
